Leaves and the Entrepreneurs

As kids, we were entrepreneurs, always creating businesses to make money.  Our jobs included, but were not limited to, selling flowers, raking leaves, and shoveling snow.  We made the cash and had fun doing it!

Today’s kids don’t seem to do that, at least where I live.  Every Fall our neighborhood is awash in leaves. And every Fall I wonder where the kids are that would like to earn some money raking the leaves.  The benefits for the kids would be twofold – they would be getting paid and getting some exercise!

Instead, we all rely on the “lawn guys” to clean up the leaves, or we get out there and do it ourselves.  And because of the variety of trees we have in the neighborhood, raking is not a once and done job.  We have Maple, Oak, Sassafras, and Dogwood, to name a few.  They’re all beautiful trees with unique and beautiful fall leaf colors, until they actually fall and have to be cleaned up.  That’s when the beauty fades.

I, for one, would be delighted to see some kids coming our way bearing rakes and a leaf blower!  I’d even drum up more business for them.  But alas, it’s not to be.  I guess between organized sports, TV, video games and the computer, this has become a thing of the past here.  But you never know.  There just might be some young entrepreneurs out there somewhere!
