Jigsaw Puzzle Fun

My Grandmother was a big fan of jigsaw puzzles. We worked on them whenever we were at her house. My best friend’s Mom used to have a card table set up with a jigsaw puzzle on it. I liked to try to get a few puzzle pieces put in their place when we were at her house.

It was from my Grandmother that we learned the “right way” to work on a jigsaw puzzle. You turn all the pieces face up on the table. You never dig in the box for pieces. You always start with the edge pieces, form the frame, and then fill in the puzzle. And of course, you always have the box with the puzzle picture standing on the table so that you can refer to it. My Grandmother was a good teacher!

From time to time I will have a puzzle going on the dining room table. I will sit for a few minutes, put pieces in their place and then come back to it later. It may sound corny to some people to be putting together a jigsaw puzzle, but that doesn’t stop the majority of us who like to do the puzzles.

So why should you consider getting a jigsaw puzzle? Jigsaw puzzles are good brain training, good for your memory, and they’re fun, too! They make you think in a logical way and give you a sense of accomplishment when you finish the entire puzzle. These are just a few benefits, as there are more.

There are many jigsaw puzzles out there. Find one you like and get started!
